Roger Salie

Roger W. Salie (January 31, 1929 - August 9, 2022) Roger W. Salie, age 93, of Oviedo, Florida passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. He was born in Owego, New York to Cornelius and Vera Salie and was the third of five children. Roger was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. Roger married the love of his life, Billie in 1954. They left Binghamton, New York in 1957 and moved to Indian Harbor Beach, Florida where he and Billie hand-built their home. Roger worked as Security Police Officer with Pan American World Airlines and retired after dedicating 30 plus years of loyal service to the company. Roger enjoyed helping to plan family camping trips and these trips took them to many campgrounds and national parks in the United States. He also worked as a campground park ranger in Tennessee after his retirement from Pan Am. Roger and Billie were often seen holding hands while walking. Hand-in-hand their travels took them to China, Korea, Germany, cruises to the Bahamas, Alaska and a trans-Atlantic cruise to Spain. Their most recent travels involved visiting family members in Hawaii and a 10-day travel adventure to Brussels, Belgium and Amsterdam. Roger enjoyed woodworking, building and refinishing furniture. Roger was a Mason. Roger was active in Episcopal churches in Melbourne, Florida, Murphy, North Carolina, and Saint Cloud, Florida. Roger was a wonderful father and never said no to his three children (or their friends) when they asked him to play tag football or play catch in their front yard in Indian Harbor Beach. Roger coached little league baseball for many years. Roger was an avid fan of the University of Florida football program (Go Gators!) Roger was a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sister, Janet Winston, his children Terry (Bruce), Lori (Walter) and Craig (Marilyn). Additionally, he is survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Roger’s children will be gathering privately at a later date to remember and celebrate Roger and to distribute his ashes.
