English Obituary Panida “Yin” Phongs, age 76, of Kissimmee, FL, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born on September 3, 1948, in Bangkok, Thailand, she was the beloved daughter of Sind Leenanuchai and Pichu Yoong. She was part of the first graduating class of nursing students from the prestigious Ramathibodi Medical School in 1967, a remarkable accomplishment that reflected her early dedication to healing and service. After immigrating to the United States, she brought with her a deep compassion and a wealth of medical knowledge, dedicating over 40 years to her work in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She cared for premature and fragile newborns with extraordinary skill and tenderness, often guiding and comforting new mothers as they navigated the overwhelming responsibility of caring for their tiny infants. Her gentle presence brought peace to many during their most vulnerable moments. She also built a life filled with love, resilience, and deep devotion to her family and the Buddhist faith. Panida Phongs is survived by her loving family: Husband, Somchai Phongs of Kissimmee, FL; Son, Poonsin Phongsvirajati and his wife Thongsa Phongsvirajati and a grandson coming soon in May of Alexandria, VA; Daughter, Patcharee Phongsvirajati and her husband Theodore Nguyen-Cao and their children Anna, Cara, and Esme of Dunn Loring, VA; Brother, Udom Napaponchana of Bangkok, Thailand; Brother Veth Leenanuchai of Bangkok, Thailand. She was known for her love of cooking and gardening, her deep devotion to her children and grandchildren, gentle spirit, warm hospitality, and her thoughtful nature — never missing a birthday. She was also an avid learner and a generous teacher, always eager to share her knowledge and wisdom with others. In addition to her many accomplishments, she was recently achieved and awarded an advanced level of study of Dhamma this past April by the Thailand National Office of Buddhism, following years of dedicated study and spiritual practice at Wat Florida Dhammaram Thai Temple. This achievement reflected her lifelong dedication as a student and her deep commitment to preserving Thai culture, honoring tradition, and practicing the Buddhist religion with sincerity and purpose. A Thai Buddhist funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home, remembrances and ceremony beginning at 5:15 PM. Cremation services will follow at a later date. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the monks, friends, and caregivers who have supported them during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites donations to Wat Florida Dhammaram, 2421 Old Vineland Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746 — a Thai Buddhist temple where she studied and was an active member of the community.
