Nanci C. Brown

Miss Nanci Celest Brown, was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 17, 1946 to the late Thomas M and Ruby (Turner) Brown -Veland.Nanci was educated in the Nebraska school system and graduated from Omaha Tech High School. She attended both the University of Nebraska and Los Angeles City College. She relocated to Los Angeles California in 1974 where she lived the majority of her adult life. Nanci was last employed by the County of Los Angeles where she worked as an Arbitrator for Martin Luther King Hospital, retiring in 2004. In 1987 Nanci was diagnosed with breast cancer, as a 16 year survivor she had a reoccurance found to be stage 1V in 2003, so went her fight for life. She tenaciously joined forces with powerful woman from "prayer warriors" to the "power house survivors" of the Susan G. Koman for the Cure. Along side her "breast friend" Carla Carmmack she tirelessly campaigned to raise Breast Cancer awareness. "Power to the Pink"! Nanci's incredible story was featured in several published articles through the years. Nanci received the honor "Most Inspirational Survivor of the year 2002" Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Koman Cancer Foundation. With God, Purpose and Hope Nanci survived 23 years before succumbing to the disease on her 64th birthday June 17, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Auburndale, FL. Nanci leaves to cherish the inspiration of her life; five sisters, Nilan - Nikkie R. wife of George H. Roberson of Kissimmee, FL, Diana M. Veland of Grand Rapids, MI, Carla M. Brooks of Cheltenhan, MD, Cynthia A. wife of Mark Allen of Brandywine, MD, Juniatta A. wife of James Little of Omaha, NE. Two brothers; Thomas M. Brown of Omaha, NE, Samuel A. Veland of Saint Paul, MN; Stepfather Samuel A. Veland Sr. of Saint Paul, MN; 18 loving nieces and nephews; 25 devoted great nieces and nephews; 1 godson Zion Mitchell. Many close personal friends and a host of Breast Cancer Survivors all over the world. A Celebration of Nanci's life will be held at 11AM, Friday, June 25, 2010 at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Kissimmee. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 - 11 AM.
