Obituary for Donald A. Reid Donald A. Reid: April 16, 1941 to April 15, 2016. He passed away the day before his 75th birthday. Donald passed away in Celebration Health Hospital, Florida surrounded by his wife, children, son in law and grandchildren, after an unexpected turn in his health. He is preceded by his parents, William B. Reid, Frances L (Nickerson) Reid, and nephew Todd H. Templeton. He is survived by his wife Helen E. (Templeton) Reid, daughter and son in law Heather E. (Reid) & Mike France of Gales Ferry, CT., daughter and son in law Pamela A. (Reid) & Brian Green of Gurnee, IL. Grandchildren Brandon Hedges, Brittney Hedges, Courtney Green, and Fiona Green. Brother Richard Reid, nieces and nephews: Laura (Reid) Guttenmann, Matt Reid, Andrew Reid, Bartholomew Reid, Melinda (Templeton) Palmer, Lisa Templeton, Debbie (Templeton) Freels. Don was born in Fall River Massachusetts. He graduated from Colonie Central High School in the class of 1959. He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. He graduated from the General Electric apprentice course and was a tool and dye maker by trade. Don was a proud member of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York, St.George’s Lodge No. 6 for over 50 years. Playing and listening to bagpipes was an avid hobby. He played with the Schenectady Pipe Band in NY for many years. He was a volunteer fireman and an EMT with the Midway Fire Department in Colonie, NY. He was a member of the Guilderland Elks Club. Don & Helen retired to Florida in 2009. They went up north for the hot part of the summer to continue to attend Scottish Games and to visit with family and make their annual trip to York Beach, Maine. They attended St. Nicholas Church of Kissimmee FL, and many of the fellowship activities that are offered there. Don & Helen volunteered together at Give Kids the World during their time in Florida. In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations to the St. Nicholas Church Building Fund in the name of Don Reid. The address for St. Nicholas Church is 1861 Peninsular Drive, Haines City, FL 33844. A memorial Service will be held at St. Nicholas Church on May 7, 2016 at 11:00 am and the interment will be on June 6, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in Saratoga, NY at the National Cemetery in June.
