Anne Macauley

Anne Macauley, 96, of Kissimmee, passed away on February 17, 2018. She was born to John and Josephine Orosch on May 25, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York, and was married to Clinton Macauley for 55 years until he passed away in 2003. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Anne was proud to be an American. Her immigrant parents never taught their language to the children so that they would be as “American” as possible. She grew up during the Depression in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn and in Glendale, Queens and graduated from Richmond Hill High School. Anne spent the war years working in defense plants, while four of her five brothers and all seven male cousins fought in the war, and her fifth brother served as a civilian employee of the Army. Her most vivid memory of those years was losing her brother Al. Shortly after the war, Anne married former paratrooper Clinton Macauley, and devoted the rest of her life to her husband, three children, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. As her children grew, she worked at the New York City Parks Department and the Prudential Paper Company, and loved both jobs. Anne and Clinton moved from Glendale to Medford, Long Island, in 1978 and to Kissimmee, Florida in 1980. Family was always “number one” for Anne. She took care of her family starting at age 13 after the premature death of her mother, and never stopped. Family members of all generations have fond memories of Anne’s hospitality and feasts. She loved glittery clothes, bowling, going to the casino, shopping for bargains at Walmart, making people feel special on their birthday, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recent years she amazed everyone with her knowledge of current events and politics. Recently she formed a special bond with her caregiver and best friend, Teresa Richards, who greatly enriched the last two years of her life. Anne was predeceased by her parents; her husband Clinton; brothers Al, John, Joseph, and Otto; in-laws Jack Macauley, Lucienne, Jody, Louise and Elly; and niece Merrilyn. She is survived by her brother Emil; sisters-in-law Rosemary and Cecelia; children Dennis, Linda and Donald; daughters/son-in-law Sheila, Jack and Sherri; grandchildren Brian, Sean, Brett, Ryan, Tara, Ashley and Shannon; spouses of grandchildren Sara, Rachael, Shannon and Tyler; great-grandchildren Henry, Nora, Blake, Abbie, Brynn and Parker; and nieces/nephews John, Karleen, Michael, Dana, Sandy, Gregory and Patricia. As a child of the Depression, Anne was frugal and considered flowers a waste of money. So instead please donate in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Children’s Hospital. A Memorial Mass and a celebration of Anne’s long and well-lived life will be held at a later date.
