Winston Stewart

Winston Glenn Stewart was born on March 31, 1928 in Seafield, St. Catherine, Jamaica West Indies and was raised in Guys Hill, St. Catherine. He was the youngest of four children born to the late Alma Edwards and Wilfred Stewart. In his early years he attended Guys Hill elementary school. After completing his elementary education he left Guys Hill for Kingston, where he enlisted in the Army of the Jamaica Regiment. He performed as a drummer in Jamaica Military Drum Core. After an honorable discharge from the Army he attended Kingston Technical School to pursue his interest in engineering. In June of 1950 while in Kingston he met and married the late Melvine Faye Stewart. In October 1954 they migrated to the United States, settling in the Brooklyn, New York. From that union they had two daughters. In 1966 he had a son with the late Hyacinth LaMonte. In New York he worked different jobs but eventually decided to return to school to continue his goal as an electrical engineer, he worked for Rochdale Village and Starrett City Power Plants. He moved his family from Brooklyn to Queens, New York in 1967. Winston remained ver active in the Springfield Gardens community, including Block and Civic Associations. He held the position of Vice President for the Block Association for over 20 years. He retired as Chief Stationary Engineere/HVAC from Starrett City in 1966 and relocated to Florida in 1997. He married his second wife Dorothy in 2003. Winston was also a member of the Mechanic Lodge: Mt. Sinai in New York and Mizpah of Orlando Lodge #4, where he held various positions, including Illustrative Grand. He was also a founding and very active member of the Round Robin Club of Central Florida. Winston was a lover of music and enjoyed his life. He loved to attend parties and travel. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining his friends and family. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and sang with the Praise and Worship Ministry, he was very active in his church community. On April 26, 2011 Winston was admitted to Osceola Regional Medical Center for surgery, he tolerated the surgery well and was on the road to recovery when he suddenly collapsed in his hospital room on Saturday, April 30, 2011 and made his transition to our heavenly Father. One granddaughter, Aaliyah, preceded him in death. Winston is survived by his wife, Dorothy, 3 children, daughters, Yvonne and Kieveth, son, Gerrard, grandchildren, Natane, Larissa, David, and Donovan, daughter-in-law, Dara, sister, Kathleen Cross, brother, Vincent Stewart, countless nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends. He will be sorely missed. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church in Kissimmee, Florida with Rev. Father Cecil Radcliff officiating. Interment to follow Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM Friday, Mary 13, 2011 at the Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Kissimmee with a Masonic Memory Service being held at 7 PM.
