William Shroyer

William "Bill" David Shroyer, 65, passed away at home surrounded by his family following a hard-fought battle with leukemia on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Bill was a Michigan native who graduated from Benzie Central High School, Class of '77. While in school, he excelled in sports, including running track, basketball, and football. After graduating high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in 1977, serving six years aboard the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69 as a Petty Officer Second-Class Nuclear Technician/Supervisor. His dedication and hard work were recognized when he was awarded "Sailor of the Year" and earned a Navy Achievement Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He joked that he didn't deserve the Good Conduct Medal but proudly accepted it because he was never caught. His service was a source of pride for him and an inspiration to us all. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Bill became a lifelong tradesman. He retired as a Manager of Construction for Facility Asset Management at Walt Disney World after over 20 years. Having spent many years working with his team, he developed lifelong friendships and took pride in working with college interns as they shadowed him. Bill's passions included the outdoors, fishing, Michigan summers, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the University of Michigan, but absolutely NOT for the Ohio State Buckeyes. A point of pride for Bill was his 100-mile hike along the Michigan North Country Trail with his wife and brother-in-law in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. Bill always knew his most outstanding achievement was his family. His endless devotion to his wife, Paula, was just the beginning of his ability to remain central to his family in every way. His family knew him as a father, partner, confidant, friend, role model, teacher, and dog dad. He is survived by his wife, his children Monica, Darrin, Joshua, and Jessica; his "bonus" children, Shawn, Lindsy, and Kelsey; his sister Diane; and his brother Ted. His family will undoubtedly miss him, and their loss is felt and shared by many: his children, "bonus" children and their families, his 15 grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his Michigan family, his friends, neighbors, and "bonus" pets. We all share in this profound loss and the grief it brings. Bill's absence is only temporary, as his memory is carried forward by those who will always love him. A Celebration of Life is being planned, and information is forthcoming. Bill was a proud and dedicated supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, Bill's family has requested monetary donations of any size to either of these worthy organizations in his name.
