Wilfredo Sanchez-Alvarez

Wilfredo Sanchez-Alvarez was born October 12, 1950, in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Felipe Sanchez and Luz Maria Alvarez. He passed away in his home, in Poinciana, FL on Tuesday February 6, 2018. At 18, he voluntseered for service, and did so in both United States Coast Guard and the United States Army for over 20 years. He held his post as cook, supply officer, and M.P. While stationed at Fort Hood, TX; he gave his time as volunteer officer for the Nolansville, TX Police Department. He began his studies in criminal justice and psychology while still in the Army and completed his Master’s Degree in criminal justice in 1995. He was a member of the National Society of Criminal Justice, Alpha Phi Sigma, and the National Society of Psychology, Psi Beta. He moved to Florida with his family in 1998, when his eldest daughter graduated from university. Deciding to try something new, he worked at Disney’s Port Orleans for 5 years as a line chef, before moving into to Disney Security. In recent years, Wilfredo has worked with the company that provides security for the Disney Vacation Club offices in Celebration, FL. Over the years, he helped hundreds of soldiers find there way. He was always willing to open his home to countless soldiers and their families throughout the years, including his foster son Joseph Nunez. Although he no longer worked as a counselor, he was always willing and ready to talk and give council to any who would ask for his help. Wilfredo, was known for always experimenting in the kitchen, collecting cook books from everywhere, lawn chairs politics, spending time with family and friends; most especially his grandson, Antonio. He maintained a lifelong friendship with those he severed with. Wilfredo is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nilda Antonia Lugo de Sanchez; his eldest daughter, Nilda Antonia Sanchez-Lugo; his youngest daughter, Rebeca Sanchez Ibarra and his grandson Antonio Miguel Ibarra Sanchez. He is also survived by his brother Felipe Sanchez and his family; and many, many friends. The viewing will be held at Osceola Memory Gardens in Poinciana, FL, on February 11, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A prayer service lead by Reverend Father Juan Osorno will begin at 6:00 PM. A mass will be held on February 12 at 11:00 PM, celebrated by Reverend Father Timothy LaBo, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation, in his name, to the Wounded Warrior Project.
