Tanya Goodson

Tanya Charisse Goodson, loving mother of 4 sons, lost her valiant 14 month battle with cancer, at home, on December 3, 2019 at the all too young age of 60 years old. She was the youngest of 5, born in Mendenhall, MS. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1959, to Carrie Lucille and Singleton Bender, Sr. Tanya grew up in Rankin County / Piney Woods, MS. and attended Piney Woods School from kindergarten through 12th grades. As testament to her hard work and natural "smarts" she proudly graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class in 1975. She went on to attend the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS., prior to completing her college studies and earning an undergraduate degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. in 1981. After living in Biloxi, MS. for awhile, Tanya relocated to Kissimmee, Florida, where she assumed home ownership, worked with the U.S. Postal Service and settled into family life. Following the birth of her 4 sons, including a set of twins, she undertook the role of single parent for many years due to the ending of her marriage. However, being the dedicated worker and family provider that she was, Tanya worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years; and as a result of her long seniority established there, she'd "paved the path" to enjoy a financially comfortable lifestyle in retirement - which she was looking forward to. This included plans for travel and exploring the world, in addition to further engaging in her newly discovered passion for motorcycle riding. Tanya also enjoyed: Cooking family dinners, Shopping, Attending music and jazz festivals and Weekends at the beach for relaxation. Additionally, being the devoted parent that she was, Tanya was a doting grandmother who took an active interest in shaping her grandchildrens' growth and development. This was evidenced by her ready willingness to support their hobbies and attend the various activities that they participated in. Tanya is lovingly survived by her 4 sons: Vernon, Jr., Victor, Vincent and Virgil; 9 grandchildren (Alana, Jaylon, Nailah, Gabriella, Jaden, Noah, Caleb, Vincent Jr., and Eva and 3 older siblings, (Carl, Singleton (Jr.) and Cassandra.) And her extended family and friends.
