Sylvia Hypolitte

Our dear mother, Sylvia Hypolitte, was born in the lovely island of Trinidad & Tobago and migrated to Canada and the United States at a younger age. Sylvia is a child of God. A bright, fun loving, phenomenal and renaissance woman. People would always speak of her friendliness and the ability to inspire and put a smile on their faces. She loved all the countries and cities where she resided. She had many friends and was a well-loved person of all the communities she lived in. Living in Trinidad, Sylvia was a mother and loved her four children. She was an avid book reader. She would read several books in a one-week period and could explain them to you. She always took her children to the library and encouraged them to read books. A housewife who also worked as an Upholstery/Upholsterer at a well-known furniture company. Sylvia not only was educated academically but also further her education by be-coming an excellent hair stylist and receiving an award that year as being the best at the craft. She was also an excellent dress maker who took pride in her work. Thus, her children wore a new outfit every Sunday to church and to attend events. Sylvia was a classy dresser. In New York, she received her GED. She loved going to plays and shows at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, the Felt Forum. She worked for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City for more than 25 years of service and retired as a Floor Department Supervisor. Sylvia received many awards for example: for taking pride in her work, dedication, her skills, knowledge, and ability to work with others. After living in New York, she moved to Florida to join her children and their families and grandchildren. Living in Florida, Sylvia continued to be active in her community, she loved attending church and served as an usher and food pantry assistant at the Sold Rock Church. Sylvia was one of the visionaries of The Caribbean and Floridian Association Inc (C.A.F.A.) and also served as the Sunshine Chair person. In the early years in Florida, she attended Trinidad and Tobago Association of Central Florida meetings. At the neighborhood library, she served as the Book Club Chair and mentored and trained young people in reading. She was a member of Toastmaster International leadership and communication organization and again she obtained several awards from this organization. At club meetings, she was known for her humorous speeches including travels to countries such as her native lands Trinidad & Tobago, France, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, South Africa. In 2013, she participated in the Leadership Legends program. Hobbies: Reading, writing poetry, learning, shopping, traveling to various countries and cities, dancing and attending special events. Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving children: Judy, June, Glenn; Grandchildren: Cindy, Tyrone; Nephew: Kenrick Jason; Sister-in-Law: Marie; Pre-deceased: Fenwrick (brother) and Glenda (daughter).
