Stella A. Griffith

Seventy six years that's how long we had our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Not long enough, but we do not question God's judgment. And those seventy six years were good years. Years well lived! Stella Griffith was born on the beautiful island of Barbados, August 8, 1936. She was the second child born to Kenneth and Odessa Keizer. She attended Welches School in St. Thomas, Barbados. Stella married Owen Griffith and to this union five children were born: Arlene, Anderson, Cynthia, Gershom and Daniel. Ma, as she was affectionately called, migrated to New Jersey in 1968 and then to New York to make a better life for her family. She had a love for education and encouraged her children to attend school. As a young girl, she wanted to get a higher education, but her parents were unable to send her to further her studies. As an adult with a family to care for, she pursued her own education and received her GED and went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked as a dedicated Nursing Assistant at the Far Rockaway Nursing Home for twenty nine years until her retirement at age sixty two. She also learned how to play the piano and enjoyed playing for her family. Stella enjoyed reading, singing, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. In New York, she worshiped and sang at the Bethel SDA Church and later the Solid Rock SDA Church before migrating to Florida where she attended the Poinciana SDA Church up to the time of her passing. She served the church in the capacity of a deaconess, a task that was carried out with great diligence. She is preceded in death by her husband, Owen Griffith, mother, Odessa Keizer, father, Kenneth Keizer, brothers Kelvin Taitt and Robert Taitt. She leaves behind: Daughters: Arlene Small, Cynthia Mason Sons: Anderson (Andy) Chesterfield, Gershom Griffith, Daniel Griffith. Sisters: Clovita Corbin, Embercio Taitt, Clotilda Yarde Brothers: Lavington Taitt and Norville Keizer Sons-in-law: Parkinson Small Sr. and Pastor Lawrence Mason Daughter-in-law:Elizabeth Griffith Fifteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grand child, a host of nieces, nephews, her dear friend Agnes Forde-Brown and her beloved Poinciana Church Family. A caring woman, Stella fought a good fight, kept the faith, finished the race and is now at rest in Jesus. The family of the late Stella A. Griffith wishes to express their deep appreciation to the members of Poinciana SDA church for the many expressions of love, comforting words and thoughtful deeds extended to the family during their time of bereavement. She will be remembered for her love to God, family, church and humanity.
