Scott Patrick Milligan

Scott Patrick Milligan, Custom Solutions Manager for the Disney Institute in Orlando, FL passed away on Thursday, January 24. Milligan, 61, grew up in New York City where he attended Fordham University on a full academic scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in Psychology. Milligan’s love of learning and sharing knowledge led to a long career specializing in professional training and coaching. He spent his early career in the retail industry beginning with A&S stores. He also worked with New Jersey retail giant Bamberger’s and Totowa, New Jersey-based Mandee stores. He left merchandise retailing to become director of training for grocery retailer A & P. In 1998 Milligan moved to the Orlando area to accept the position of director of training for the Orange County Convention Center, the primary public convention center for central Florida. His skill in presenting complex concepts of management to diverse audiences led him to the Disney Institute, the professional consulting arm of the Walt Disney Company. At Disney Institute Milligan was as an admired mentor to many of his colleagues and his proficiency in making presentations and facilitating organizational development activities in major companies resulted in his being heavily in demand by business clients throughout the world. As a result Milligan represented the Disney organization throughout the United States as well as in such diverse locations as England, France, South Africa, Croatia, Mexico, and Canada. He often marveled at how “a kid from New York’s Hell’s Kitchen” went on to travel the globe. Always a kid at heart, Milligan took great joy in a part-time stint driving for Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Kilimanjaro Safari, just prior to his joining the Disney Corporation as a full-time executive. Beyond his professional interests, Scott enjoyed numerous hobbies throughout his life, including photography, and he was an award winning model railroader. He was also a life-long lover of all animals, who will be most remembered for his kind and thoughtful nature. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of being “Dad.” He was a devoted and loving father who will be so sorely missed. The son of the late Frank and Catherine (Carvin) Milligan, Scott is survived by a daughter, Christine Milligan-Mulvehill and husband John of Hamilton, MA; a brother, Frank Milligan and wife Isobel of Williamsburg, VA; and two nephews, Brian Milligan and wife Joy of Richmond, VA., and Craig Milligan of Greenville, NC.
