Robert Edmund Pelletier Sr.

Robert (Bob) Edmund Pelletier, Sr., born on April 13, 1937 in Coventry, Rhode Island, to the late Rose Pelletier and the late Edmond Pelletier, passed away at age 81 on October 28, 2018 in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by his family and friends. The cause of death was congestive heart failure. Bob graduated from University of Rhode Island in 1960, with a BS in Chemistry. He later received an MBA from the University of New Haven Executive MBA Program in 1987. He spent his career working in the textile industry where he specialized in coated fabrics, and retired from Duro Industries in Fall River MA in 2001 as General Manager of Coated Fabrics. Bob continued to consult on coated fabrics post retirement. Through his career he developed many innovative chemical formulas and processes for manufacturing waterproof fabrics that had wide applications across a number of industries. Bob was devoted to his Catholic faith, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and an Usher at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He looked forward to attending mass on Sundays and greeting all the parishioners, all of whom he considered his friends. He also enjoyed going out to breakfast after mass each week, and having his trademark blueberry pancakes. Bob was a gentle, kind and loving man who loved to talk about his work, his favorite sports teams – the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots – and his children. He also enjoyed traveling, and visited many cities and countries around the world with his extended family and friends. Bob was especially fond of his only grandchild, Evan Hanes Pelletier, who predeceased him in January 2007 at the age of 6 due to complications from ulcerative colitis. Bob loved spending time with Evan and teaching him about science, the planets, and how to play sudoku. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diane Tasca Pelletier, his two beloved sons, Robert E. Pelletier, Jr. of Boston MA and Gary A. Pelletier of Plainfield, NJ, his brother, Ronald Pelletier of Coventry RI, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends in both Orlando and Rhode Island, where he lived prior to retirement. Friends and family can pay their respects at a memorial service, officiated by Father Garcia and Father Kerber, on Friday, December 7 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 12600 Marsfield Avenue, Orlando, Florida, 32837. The burial will be in his home state of Rhode Island on Saturday, November 24, at noon at St. Sebastian cemetery in Westerly.
