Robert Prescott Corthell Jr.

Robert Prescott Corthell Jr. (Bob), 83 of Port Charlotte and St. Cloud, Florida passed away June 9, 2017 after a long struggle fighting the effects of a stroke. Bob was born on February 19, 1934 in Hingham, Massachusetts to Robert and Lillian Corthell (Ripley), both deceased. His only sibling Sally survives him. After terrorizing the towns of Hingham and Weymouth through his high school years, Bob entered the U.S. Army in June of 1953. He distinguished himself being awarded a National Defense Service Metal and a Parachutist Badge. He was proudest of being a Parachute Rigger in the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Bob received an Honorable Discharge in June of 1956. He moved to Florida in 1962 and remained a lifelong resident. He was a carpenter, truck driver, auto mechanic ( a damn good one) and he finished out his work as a General Contractor. He was successful in all his endeavors, including attaining his private pilot’s license. Bob loved to fly and never passed up an opportunity for a quick day trip. November seven five eight eight five (N75885), a Cessna 172 was the aircraft he loved spending time in. In his later years, golf became his passion. One of his hobbies was building golf clubs, for himself and for others. He was seen at many golf courses breaking, pounding into the ground, and throwing his clubs into a water hazard. At least once he threw his entire bag of clubs into a water hazard. He played without a pencil and just liked being out there. Especially when he whipped Robert’s ass. He is survived by his children, sons Jack, David, Donald, Robert , Richard, and his daughter Kelly, his stepsons Mike and Big Dave, his sister Sally Rohrer, and his partner of 20 years Judy Cox. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and quite a few great-grandchildren. There might be a great-great grandchild thrown in, but we can’t be sure. He was preceded in death by his parents, most of his ex-wives, his daughter Terri, and his step-daughter Jan. Bob made many friends over the course of his life and leaves a hole in our hearts. He was married more than a few times, made lots of kids, took on a few more, and did a good job of continuing the family name. In the end, he was a good man with a good heart. We all miss him and the way that he was. A memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 24, 2017 beginning at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
