Nancy Allen

Nancy Allen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born in Montpelier, Vermont and raised on a farm in Middlesex, Vermont, where she created countless cherished memories with her beloved parents, Burt Peterson and Viola (Cooley) Peterson, her sister Ruthann (Peterson) Fitzgerald, and their many close cousins. She shared so many memories of her and her sisters upbringing on the farm, including sleigh rides to deliver eggs to neighbors with their pony and dog, their favorite cow named Rubberneck, doing somersaults into the hayloft and taking picnics to the rock on the hillside behind their home. She attended Montpelier High School where up until recently, she continued to meet with a group of girl friends she attended school with. She later married the love of her life, Richard Allen, with whom she shared a remarkable 65 years of marriage. Above all, she was a deeply devoted mother to her two sons and their wives, Brett Allen and Amy Allen, and Scott Allen and Maureen Allen, whose lives were enriched by her love, wisdom, and support. Above all, she treasured her role as a Grandmother to her 5 Granddaughters, 2 Grandsons, and 9 Great Grandchildren. She was known for her passion for cooking and baking, often filling her home with the comforting aromas of favorite family recipes, especially her pies. Every meal was made with love and always enjoyed by friends and family. She had a knack for remembering everyone’s favorites and having them readily available during a visit. She had an extraordinary memory for birthdays and special occasions and never missed a chance to send a thoughtful card or gift. Her kindness, attention to detail, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She held a deep and abiding love for her home state of Vermont. She found joy in every season and cherished the state’s wildlife, natural beauty, and community. Her family held numerous positions in Vermont state government over the years, and she remained engaged and proud of their contributions to public service. Vermont was not just where she lived and grew up, it was a part of her soul. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, her thoughtfulness, her grace, and her quiet presence. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
