N Hartley Odom, of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at his residence. He was born November 13, 1946 the son of the late Nathaniel Haynes Odom and Edith Hartley Odom. He is survived by his spouse of 13 years, Mary Anne Bryant Yow Odom; daughters: Ryan Leigh Odom Runyon and husband Joseph Andrew of Winston-Salem, NC., and Lauren Elizabeth Odom of Darlington, SC; stepson, Eric Lee Yow of Orlando, Florida; and sister, Joyce Odom Cook and her husband Dennis Lee (Pete) of Wadesboro, NC. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Jonah Quinn Runyon and Margaret Edith Runyon of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters-in-law: Barbara Bryant Hardwick of Myrtle Beach, SC., Patricia Bryant Bolton of Wendell, NC., and Laura Bryant McDonald and her husband Frank of Canton, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Griffin Jefferson Bryant of Sanford, NC; nieces: Amanda Cook Plyler and husband Robbie and daughter, Addie of Monroe, NC., Allison Conte of Wendell, NC., and Lindsay Bolton also of Wendell, NC; nephews: Kris Hardwick and wife Lisa and daughter, Kinsley of Cheraw, SC., Matt Hardwick and wife Robin and their son, Mason and daughter, Camille Grace of Myrtle Beach, SC., Jeff Bryant of Wilmington, NC., Brandon McDonald of Atlanta, Georgia and Bryce McDonald of Birmingham, Alabama. Hartley attended Bennettsville High School until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964. Most of his Naval career was served aboard the USS America. He spoke fondly of his years aboard ship and was a Plank owner. He was a Past Master and Life Member of St. David's Lodge # 72 of the Ancient Free Masons in Darlington, SC. He was also a member of the Fort Pierce Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Patron of Cape Fear Chapter in Wilmington, NC. His great joys since relocating to Florida have been the beaches both on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, and attending performances of Yow Dance, as well as playing with his HAM radio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, the Shriner's Children Hospital in Greenville, SC or Yow Dance, Inc, PO Box 22632, Orlando, Florida. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10am on Friday September 12, 2014 at the Florence National Cemetery in Florence SC. 29506.
