Michael Duane Hunt

Michael D. Hunt April 8, 1942 – July 3, 2025 Michael D. Hunt, 83, of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025. Born in Oakland, Illinois and raised in Decker, Indiana, Mike lived a life defined by service, hard work, and deep devotion to his family and community. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Mike served with honor in the Vietnam War. After his military service, he built a lasting career with the United Telephone Company, retiring after decades of dedicated work as the company transitioned into CenturyLink. Never one to sit still, he also ran a lawn mower repair shop out of his home—a familiar stop for many in Kissimmee. Mike’s heart truly belonged to the outdoors. A passionate fisherman, he was a fixture at Big Toho Marina, where he found joy, peace, and lifelong friendships. Whether casting a line or swapping stories, he was always at home by the water. He was a devoted husband to Janice (Provost) Hunt, sharing 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised two daughters, Heather (Hunt) Harris and Jennifer (Hunt) Snider, and played a key role in the lives of their grandchildren. Mike especially helped raise two of his oldest grandkids, Andrew Hunt and Amber (Hunt) Hook, leaving them with countless cherished memories. In total, Mike was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren. He was also a beloved uncle and great-uncle. He wore the titles of husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle, with honor. He loved his family. Known for his strength, humor, and generous spirit, Mike always made sure those around him were taken care of. In his later years, he found comfort in the familiar—often dozing off in his chair to the sounds of John Wayne, M*A*S*H, or classic country music. Mike’s presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter will continue to live on through the many lives he touched and was apart of, including all of the nurses and doctors at the V.A. Community Living Center in Lake Nona. He loved all of his nurses and doctors there. Mike’s family will be having a celebration of life for him at a later date.
