Maxine Annette Garvey

Maxine Annette Garvey was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and servant of Christ. She left this world on July 24, 2021, at age 63. After conquering several illnesses, she was called home to be with the Lord. She was born to Gerald and Gladys Duncan on May 17, 1958 and is one of their 4 children. In 1973, She met the love of her life, Clarence Garvey. They were married on June 26, 1976 and together they have three children and one grandchild. In 1981, she graduated from Westchester Community College with an associate’s degree in Lab Technology. Maxine loved spending time with her family and creating delicious meals and cakes. If anyone was ill, she would cook her famous chicken soup. She enjoyed singing and used to sing duets with her husband at the Holy Tabernacle in Mount Vernon, NY, where she was baptized in the name of Jesus. Maxine loved the travel, especially by cruise ships. Her farthest trip was to the Philippines. She was a skilled, certified nursing assistant and home health aide and took pride in caring for others. She loved doing the Lord’s work, and whether it be cleaning the church or feeding her pastor, she was willing to lend a helping hand. She was a true warrior, and no matter how many times her armor would dent, she would get up, stand strong, and fight again. Maxine was well known for her contagious smile that could light up the room. Even when she was ill, she would find a way to inspire others and give others hope. We take comfort in knowing she is with the Lord. She loved being a mom and was very proud of her children and grandson. Maxine leaves behind her loving husband Clarence A. Garvey, Sr., Dr. Melisa Wilson (husband Joshua Wilson), grandson Joshua Wilson, Jr., Chantie Garvey (husband Sean Josiah), and Clarence Garvey, Jr (wife Kristine Guanzon), as well as, two sisters and three brothers, her aunt Ester Bonner, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maxine’s strong, vivacious personality will not be forgotten. We love you dearly and miss you terribly, but to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. You are now safe in His arms.
