Maurel Benedict Nunez

Maurel B. Nunez was born May 6, 1944 in Fyzabad, Trinidad to Ida Kistow and Lucas Nunez, the first of ten children born to the couple. He attended school at Fyzabad Intermediate School and St. Benedict’s College, La-Romaine where his love for music was born while playing the trombone in the college’s marching band. His post-secondary educational pursuits saw him matriculate at John Donaldson Technical Institute where he studied Surveying and New York University (NYU) where he graduated with a BA with Honors in Social Science. Professionally, Maurel began working at Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Agriculture as a Surveyor and upon migrating to the US, worked as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) for Pitney Bowes from 1973 until his retirement in 2001. His professionalism and work ethic earned him many commendations including being ranked the #1 CSR on numerous occasions. Maurel was a commitment to excellence in all endeavors for he graduated from NYU while working full-time. An avid audiophile with a penchant for classical music, Maurel enjoyed many hours listening to the intricacies of complex symphonies. He also possessed an insatiable appetite for the acquisition of knowledge and was confident discussing any topic. His famous story telling usually introduced with ‘Ay boy!’ was a joy to behold for they were often as intricate as the symphonies. The manner in which he carried himself was endearing and he made friends wherever life took him. Upon retirement, he sought the warmth of Florida and moved to Poinciana, FL with his wife Elaine. Memories of Maurel will always be treasured by his wife Elaine; his two daughters Kisha and Paula whose mother is Muriel Andrew; three grandchildren Anayah, Xavier and Isaiah; son-in-law Dillon; step-children Judith and Anthony; five brothers Philip, Damian, Justino, Andrew and Albinus; sister Avarista (Rita); five sisters-in-law Rosemarie, Petra, Winifred, Gail and Gemma; brother-in-law Sam; Cousins: the Nunezs, the Kistows, the Grells, the Rudolphs, and the De Verts; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 17,2013 from 5 to 9pm at Osceola Memory Gardens Poinciana Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church , Kissimmee, FL, at 11am on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
