Martha Hicks

Hicks, Martha Martha Belle McCauley Knight Hicks, Kissimmee, FL, formerly of Dade County (Trenton), GA and Chattanooga, TN, peacefully passed on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at age 77. Martha was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and homemaker with an incredible sense of care giving, humor, adventure and style. Throughout her life and numerous residences, she was well known as a dedicated Church Member (United Methodist), Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Counselor, PTA Activist, "Reach to Recovery" Counselor, Outgoing Neighbor and a Charming Performer; and received special recognition for 20 years of service as the Resident Manager for the First Lutheran Church Camp in Soddy-Daisy, TN. Being a "40 Year" Breast Cancer Survivor, she fought lengthy battles and struggles since her original diagnosis and faced the most recent and surprising recurrence with dignity and a smile! Her eternal wish and desire was not only for a cure for this disease, but a heightened awareness, support and "hope" to those families dealing with the associated issues. She was truly a "Southern Belle" with an unending spirit of courage and strength, and was loved and adored by all whose lives she touched! Martha was proceeded in death by her father, Earl Terrell McCauley, and mother, Mable Flora Tucker McCauley Cathey. She is survived by husband of 49 years, James W. (Jim) Hicks of Kissimmee, FL; her son Joseph M. (Joe) Knight, III, and his wife Theresa Fryar Knight of Soddy-Daisy, TN; her son J.Michael Hicks of Orlando, FL; and her brother Walter Terrell McCauley of Springfield, TN, and many nieces and nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews. "Celebration of Life" Services will be held in both the Orlando and Chattanooga areas. Visitation will be Sunday, December 10th at 12 Noon, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm at Osceola Memory Gardens, located at 1717 Boggy Creek Road, Kissimmee, FL 34744. An additional visitation will take place in Tennessee on Thursday, December 14th from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home East, 404 S. Moore Road, Chattanooga, TN 37412, and another visitation at 10 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11 am, located at First Lutheran Church, 800 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN, with a burial interment at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
