Margaret Jane McGonigal

McGonigal, Margaret (Margie) Jane, age 100, departed her earthly home on April 5, 2013. Born October 27, 1912 in Rockingham, NC, to William G. and Annie Liske. Margie was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Elroy E. (Mac) McGonigal, one of her 3 sons, David L. McGonigal and a daughter, Patricia Ann McGonigal. Also preceding her in death were three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by 2 sons, and 3 daughters in law: E. Edward (Ed) McGonigal and wife Mary of Umatilla, T. James (Jim) McGonigal and wife Yvonne of Sunrise, FL and daughter in law Bonnie McGonigal of Tavares; brother in law, Lawrence (Ted) McCaffrey and wife Janet of Lansing, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; Sally Frederick, Matt McGonigal, Kerry McGonigal, Scott Chavis, Sean Chavis, Chris McGonigal and Katie McGonigal and numerous great- grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Margie was valedictorian of her high school class, played basketball and after attending junior college went to live in California where she met Mac, the love of her life, while working at a restaurant. They were married in 1933 and Margie promptly found herself with Mac's parents in Lansing, Michigan. After Mac got out of the Navy he joined Margie in Michigan where they started their life's journey together and where 3 sons and 1 daughter were born. Margie and Mac moved to Kissimmee in 1948 and owned and operated The Oriole Cafe on N. Main Street which eventually became Margie's Diner located on East Vine Street. Margie was a homeroom mother for her boys classes in high school for many years and active in youth activities. She also was a school trustee. A devout Christian, she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Kissimmee for over 40 years and a member of the choir, which she dearly loved. She also enjoyed serving in many ministries of the church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and had many enduring friendships. Throughout the years Margie delighted in taking her grandchildren to Gatorland where she had a lifetime pass. Margie will be missed, but is now in the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved and served during her lifetime. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home of Kissimmee and services will be held in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Kissimmee on Thursday, April 11th. Family visitation and viewing will be held beginning at 12:30 and services at 1:30, with entombment to follow at Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice of Lake and Sumter Counties.
