Lessie Mae Burton

Lessie Mae Burton passed away February 28th at the age of 95. She was the daughter of Charles and Mamie Hansel Padgett, and a third generation native of Osceola County. Her heritage includes several pioneering families in the area. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her son-in-law Allen “Spike” Carroll, her grandson Charlie Burton, her two sisters and two brothers. Her survivors include her daughter, Jean Carroll, her son Bill Burton (Claudia), grandchildren Pamela Roberts (Charlie), Doug Carroll, Kim Walker (Gerry) and Cole Burton (Lynette). She is also survived by nine Great-grandchildren Josh Roberts, Kayla Burton, Trey Carroll, Sam Walker, Bryce Burton, Jake Burton, Tyler Walker, Jessie Burton and Leacy Burton. She was a homemaker who placed her faith and family above all. Lessie and Fred were married for more than 64 years, spending most of their married life in Kissimmee. For seven years they lived in Detroit where Fred was a carpenter. Upon returning to Kissimmee, they became owners of the Gulf Service Station on South Bermuda Avenue where Lessie worked tirelessly with Fred. Her happiest times were spent with family whether it be her siblings, children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren. She was been a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Many years ago, members of the church were asked to hand-write the Bible in chapters. She was honored to be part of that project which gave her great joy and pride. Lessie was an avid gardener whose love of flowers was evident in her beautifully landscaped yard. She was a charter member and past president of the Kissimmee Garden Club’s Rose Circle. She was presented the longest active member award when the club disbanded after 50 years. She won many awards for her creative floral designs, many focusing on an oriental theme. Her home was a reflection of that theme along with her passionate love of the color red. Lessie was a gracious and loving lady who set a fine example for her family. She is already greatly missed. Services and interment for Lessie will be held on Wednesday, March 5th at Osceola Memory Gardens.
