Kathleen DaCosta

Kathleen Elaine DaCosta passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, in Mount Dora, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 20, 1940, in Coco Walk, Manchester, Jamaica, to Violet Elaine DaCosta and Roland Adolphus DaCosta. A woman of deep faith, boundless love, and extraordinary kindness, Kathleen lived her life as a reflection of God’s grace, touching hearts with her music, her warmth, and her unwavering devotion to her family and church. Kathleen spent her early years in Manchester, Jamaica, and built a successful career as an Insurance Manager for British American Insurance Company. In 1986, she migrated to Florida, where she worked as a Phlebotomist until her retirement. From a young age, Kathleen’s love for music was evident. She played the piano and organ for church, filling the sanctuary with melodies that lifted spirits and brought people closer to God. Music was her ministry, a gift she shared joyfully, knowing that it could bring comfort, healing, and praise. Her love extended beyond music into her home, where she found great joy in cooking for those she loved. Her kitchen was always full of delicious aromas, laughter, and the company of family and friends. Whether preparing a special meal or a simple dish, every meal was made with love and care. Kathleen also had a deep appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation, especially flowers. She found peace and joy in tending to her garden, where each bloom was a reminder of the wonder and renewal of life. Above all, Kathleen was a devoted mother, grandmother, and servant of God. She cherished her children and grandchildren, offering them guidance, love, and an example of faith in action. Her greatest legacy is the love she poured into her family and the faith she instilled in those who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, Kathleen’s spirit will live on in the music she played, the meals she lovingly prepared, the flowers that bloom in the spring, and the faith that continues in the hearts of her loved ones. Kathleen was a devoted mother to Osbourne Heron (deceased 2007) & former wife Sherron Hameed and is survived by her children, Howard Heron and his wife Leonie & former wife Michelle Facey, Michael DaCosta(Mickey), Andrea Pesce and her wife Sheri & former husband Winston Shaw, and Wainwright Heron and his wife Rosemarie and former wife Rosalee Scott . She cherished her grandchildren: Osbourne Heron Jr.and his wife Michelle, Tiffany Shaw, Paxton Shaw, Hussein Heron, Mario Heron, Brittany Heron-Maurice and her husband Alexander, Dominic Heron, Mattheu Heron, Gabrielle Heron, Malik Heron, Cody Heron, Wainwright Alexandré Heron, Jordan Powell and wife Karla, .Rachel Heron, and William Heron. She was blessed to have one great grandson Zaire Heron. She was preceded in death by her siblings Hyacinth Jennings, Lily Powell, Gloria Moncrieffe, and Norman DaCosta. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings: Hermine Samuels, Pansy Gibson, Molly Rhone, Lena Gilyard, and Anthony DaCosta. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also hold her memory dear. A service to honor Kathleen’s life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery, Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1717 Old Boggy Creek Rd., Kissimmee, FL 34744. Viewing will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m. A reception will be held immediately after the service.
