Joseph Smith

Joseph Alphanso George Smith affectionately known as “Joe” sunrise December 4, 1941 and sunset September 25, 2024. Joe was the fourth born son of five children to George and Greta Smith of Spanish Town, St. Catherine Jamaica W.I. He passed away peacefully at home in Kissimmee with his wife by his side. Joe was happily married to his sweetheart Herfa for over fifty years. He is survived by her and their three children: Christine and her husband Bill Hillman, Joseph Jr, and Richard. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Dezarae and her husband Devonte Williams, Joseph ‘III’, Alesha and her husband Dion Bergan Jr., Jayden, Nahjae and his great grandson Desmond. He also leaves behind his sister Norma, sisters & brothers in law and a slew of loving nieces and nephews. Joe was an affectionate, loyal, loving, encouraging, and impeccable son, husband, in- law, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who valued his family, friends and working for the Lord. His first love was the Lord Jesus Christ whom he found later in life but fully committed himself to His service through ministry. He was a board member, sang in the choir, Sunday School Teacher, nursery worker and leader of the couples’ ministry at Calvary Assembly Kissimmee before he was no longer able to attend church due to his health. Joe worked as a Prison Warden in his early years in Jamaica. He migrated to the United States in 1980 where he retained employment in a boys’ home upstate New York. He and his family moved to Florida in 1989 where he worked many jobs and finally settled as a custodian for the Osceola School Board until he retired in 2008. Joe’s gentle character, wealth of knowledge and his contagious laughter will be missed immensely. Rest in peace till we meet again in our Heavenly home. 2 Corinthians 5:7-10 Now the power that has planned this experience for us is God, and he has given us his Spirit as a guarantee of its truth. This makes us confident, whatever happens. We realize that being “at home” in the body means that to some extent we are “away” from the Lord, for we have to live by trusting him without seeing him. We are so sure of this that we would really rather be “away” from the body (in death) and be “at home” with the Lord. It is our aim, therefore, to please him, whether we are “at home” or “away”. For every one of us will have to stand without pretense before Christ our judge, and we shall be rewarded for what we did when we lived in our bodies, whether it was good or bad. J.B.
