Joseph Olivo

Raised in the South Bronx, during the tumultuous ’50s and ’60s in the Forest Houses projects. Joseph Olivo always had a strong work ethic, even in childhood he looked for ways to foster a strong sense of independence. Early on he learned that he had a special ability to work with his hands. He had a career as a CNC Machinist and showed an interest in mechanics and making repairs to his cars. He was a true outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and the quiet solitude of being surrounded by nature. As a young man he played and managed a community baseball team and often organized camp/day trips for our friends and family. Joe was a man of uncompromising principles, integrity, and character. He had an unrelenting sense of fairness and always looked to do the “right thing.” He took pride in his family, his daughters, and especially his grandchildren, showing them a side of himself that few others ever saw. This integrity and family pride was the cornerstone of the entire Olivo clan. His daughters went on to become successes in their own right, each of them having storied careers in the medical field. Veronica is a Physician Assistant, Belinda and Leslie are Registered Nurses and Monica is a Dialysis Facility Administrator; Leslie is also an ordained minister. Joe also had a wonderful relationship with his four sons-in-law: Sanjay, Israel, Franklin, and David. Joe also has nine grandchildren: Justin, Brianna, Jared, Joshua, Kayla, Devan, Maya, Meena, and the youngest, Natalya. Furthermore, all of his adult grandchildren are currently or have already attended and graduated from world-renowned colleges and universities. This has prepared them to embark on their own careers in various fields of medicine, finance, and marketing. Joe was married for 57 years to his wife Loida and they built a loving and faithful family together. She was a pillar of strength, love, and fortitude during their shared journey.
