Jorge Oscar Colon

Jorge Oscar Colon, 91 years old, passed away peacefully at his home in Orlando, Florida. His family remained by his side to love and support him during his final days. Jorge was born on June 23, 1931 in the small town of Lares, Puerto Rico. Jorge cherished his hometown and loved discussing the rich history of the island with everyone around him. As an early adult, he served his country as a corporal of the U.S. Army. After an honorable discharge, he moved to New York and spent most of his life working for the New York City Transit Authority. In 1952, he met the love of his life, Ramonita Perez Duran, and they soon married at the beautiful Iglesia San Catolica San Jose in Lares, Puerto Rico. The couple brought two daughters into the world, Julia and Mavelyn Colon. Their marriage of 66 years was always his highest priority, such that he loved his wife deeply and with passion even after she passed in 2021. Jorge also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved being outdoors, working on cars, watching old cartoons like Looney Tunes, and above all, he loved chocolate! His secret to good health was starting and ending each day with a slice of chocolate cake. Jorge loved to sing all the time and he was nicknamed the family’s singing canary. He had an insatiable hunger for knowledge and history, and spent a lot of his free time reading and writing. He also treasured classical music, poetry, and literature, a love that he also bestowed onto his eldest granddaughter, Nicole. Above all else, Jorge was a devoted family man. He had a generous spirit and worked hard to provide the best opportunities for his family. Jorge is survived by his loving daughter, Mavelyn; grandchildren, Nicole, Kristie, and Michael; and his one-year-old great granddaughter, Hailey. His memory will undoubtedly live on by all who knew and loved him. Jorge and Ramonita were a couple of strong faith and anticipated their passing with grace and dignity. It was their collective wish for their family and friends to celebrate their lives on Earth and embrace the eternal lives now given to them by the Lord. The viewing will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 10AM to 12PM for all who wish to attend, followed by a brief memorial service led by the family Pastor. Afterwards Jorge will be carried to his final resting place, where he will receive military honors on account of his service in the U.S. Army.
