John Aidan Mahoney

John Aidan Mahoney of Celebration, Florida, passed gently from this life to the next on March 6, 2024. Born in Montreal, Quebec to Hugh and Mary (Kenehan) Mahoney, John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karin, daughter Sharon Mahoney, and sister Aileen. John was raised in Montreal and graduated from Loyola college and McGill University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he worked for Bell Canada and Northern Telecom (Nortel) initially in Montreal then transferred to Toronto, followed by a relocation to Raleigh, North Carolina. Over his 33-year career at Nortel, John excelled at negotiations and strategic planning. His last assignment was Vice President of External Affairs during which time he was awarded the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine from the Governor of the State of North Carolina. John enjoyed ‘fixing’ things, but also enjoyed hockey, skiing, golfing, flying, and more recently, cruising. John was proud of his private pilot's license. John always had an affinity for Walt Disney World and he and Karin retired to Celebration, Florida. He started working for Disney, first in Raleigh at a Disney store, then transferred to Walt Disney World. He enjoyed his time meeting guests while working in various merchandise shops on property. He retired from Disney after 25 years. Cruising with Karin became his new Disney passion. His family and friends will miss his cheerfulness, wry humor, and generosity of spirit. He joins his parents and sister, Sister Elizabeth Mahoney CND (d 1999). A heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to all the medical staff, hospitality teams, and extended family for their support and care over the years. Services will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Monday, March 18. A viewing from 11am-12pm, funeral mass from 12pm-1pm, and reception to follow. The service will be live streamed on Facebook.
