John W. Bronson

John W. Bronson, 92, of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014. John was born on January 11, 1922, in the Shingle Creek area of Kissimmee. He was a member of one of the first pioneer families in the area, born the son of Effie C. Gainy and James H. Bronson. After leaving Kissimmee, John and his brother Roma moved to California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an MP before returning to Central Florida. In January 1950, he married his wife of almost 65 years, Evelyn Vivian Davis, with whom he had two children - Randy and Melanie. John, Vivian, and Randy lived in Jacksonville for a few years in the 1950's while John worked in the Railway Mail Service, before returning to Kissimmee in the late 1950's where John built a house for his family. John worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 30 years, and was also a citrus grower. For many years, he sold fruit to locals and winter visitors alike. He had many regular customers that enjoyed visiting with him as much as buying the fruit he had to sell. John enjoyed working in his citrus groves, farming, and working with his hands. He loved to show inquisitive visitors the citrus groves, as many of them had never seen anything quite like it. He and his son, Randy, worked together taking care of the citrus groves for many years. He enjoyed traveling across the country with his family in a travel trailer when he was younger, and enjoyed spending time in North Carolina in the fall in later years. He was a beloved husband and father, as well as the type of person who would help a friend in need. John is also survived by a granddaughter, Christine Parker; and two great-grandchildren: Paige and Troy, Jr., and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 19th from 4 - 6 pm at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Kissimmee. Services for John will be held at 11 am, Thursday, November 20th at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery, Kissimmee.
