Jimmie Fletcher

Jimmie Fletcher, 82, former Superintendent of Osceola County Schools was called home by the Lord January 15, 2015 after a long illness. Jimmie was predeceased by his parents, Colie and Lizzie Cook Fletcher, and seven siblings, Roy, Claude, Kermit, Alice Faye, Robert, Richard, and Ramey Fletcher. Surviving Jimmie are his wife of fifty-eight years, Burma Jo (Adkins) Fletcher of St. Cloud, two sons, Gary Fletcher (Sherrie) of Portsmouth, VA and Tony Fletcher (Rachel) of Melbourne, FL; four grandchildren, Stuart Fletcher of Oak Harbor, WA, Laurel Glover of Goose Creek, SC, Jeanie Fletcher of Atlanta, GA, and Dana Marie Fletcher of Orlando; four step-grandchildren, Sarah Hayes of Dover, DE, Rebecca Orr of Everett, WA, Stephanie Barrett of Shoreline, WA and Wade Wessels II of Portsmouth, VA; two brothers, Jack Fletcher (Freda) of Stearns, KY and Curt Fletcher of St. Cloud; 15 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Jimmie was born June 25, 1932, in Greenup County, Kentucky. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, serving in England, Louisiana, and North Africa. Jimmie and Burma Jo Adkins were married January 19, 1957 at Morehead University, Morehead, KY where Jimmie earned his Bachelor of ARts degree in 1958.. Upon graduation Jimmie worked for the C&O Railroad in Greenup County Ky, and taught school and coached football and track in Greenup County Schools including Wurtland High School 1958 thru 1967. Jimmie earned his Master of Science degree at Marshall University, Huntington, WV in 1967. Later the same year he moved to Florida where he began a teaching and administrative career in Osceola County. Jimmie served as Principal of Beaumont Middle School and Highlands Elementary School in Kissimmee, and held many other supervisory positions in Osceola County Schools including Secondary Supervisor and Deputy Superintendent. In 1976 Jimmie was elected Superintendent of Schools of Osceola County. In 1965 Jimmie was appointed a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels by Governor Breathitt. In 1974 Jimmie was selected as an "Outstanding Educator in America" by The Academy of American Educators. He was a member and deacon of Neptune Road Baptist Church. He has been an active member of The Gideons International for many years.Visitation will be January 19 2015 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 2000 13th street, St. Cloud. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 that same day. Burial will be at Mount Peace Cemetery in St. Cloud.
