James Preston Duke

James Preston Duke, age 52, of Kissimmee Florida, passed away on February 16, 2021 from injuries sustained in a tragic traffic accident. James’ warm heart, joyful approach to life and endless energy affected all those who knew him and the world is less without him. Born, March 12, 1968, in San Diego, CA, James graduated from El Capitan High School and later received his Associates Degree and Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist from Grossmont College. He excelled in many sports, including baseball, soccer, football, and track, most notably, receiving many awards in pole vaulting. He loved surfing, fishing, boating, playing pool, and almost any indoor and outdoor activity presented; if someone suggested he try it, he would, and was usually pretty good, or, at least, had fun! His life took him to many places, living in San Diego, Golden Beach, Las Vegas and the Orlando area, among others, and everywhere he went, he touched the lives of those he met. He cared deeply for his family, fiancé and friends and could always be depended on. It was evident how dedicated, devoted, affectionate and loving he was as a father to Felix. His passionate approach to life, others, and his strong beliefs were instantly recognizable. James worked at various hospitals in Las Vegas and central Florida, most recently at AdventHealth Heart of Florida, where he will be greatly missed. With his excellent skills as a respiratory therapist, many of his co-workers admired his commitment, attentiveness, intelligence, and his willingness to be flexible with his shifts or departments, so that as a team, everyone could provide the best possible patient care. James was a hero to anyone who needed help. He worked endlessly to provide for his family by spending many overtime hours in the hospital and saving many lives as a result. He would give you the shirt off his back or the last dollar in his pocket, if you needed it. His contagious laughter, warm smile, love of Jesus, and kindhearted spirit brought joy to your life and made you feel like your troubles weren’t so big after all. Preceded in death by his mother, Mira Michelotti, James is survived by his child, Felix Duke; fiancé, Jennifer Muller, her children Jolie, Jorden, and Riley; father, Jimmy Duke; bonus-mom, Linda Duke; Sisters Kelly Duke (Odie), Sheri Etter (Greg) and Leanne Dudley; brother Gary Duke (Robin); nieces and nephews, Nathan, Jessica, Michael, Lauren, Wendy, Lori, Sheri, James and Holly; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A private reception with relatives and close friends will be held at the home of James and Jennifer on Friday, March 12, 2021, between 4:00PM and 10:00PM, EST.
