Hyacinth Hope Hines

HYACINTH HOPE HINES was born in Jamaica, West Indies on April 25, 1918. She was the youngest of ten children born to Blanche and Anthony Salkey and was affectionately called "Hopie". Hyacinth became a teacher at a young age and after marriage to her now deceased husband Vincent Harold Hines, she assumed the role of mother and businesswoman. Emerging from this union were six children; four boys and two girls. Her children were her life?s work and she fought hard to get them on the right path educationally, also to be successful human beings by always putting God first. Because of Hyacinth's dedication and love for family she decided to give up her life in Jamaica, and migrated to New York in 1976 to help raise her grandchildren and everyone else who needed a helping hand or a listening ear. In 1995 Hyacinth and her daughter Joan Taylor relocated to the warmer climate of Florida and since then have made it their home. On July 29, 2010 at sunset she peacefully and without suffering transitioned into her Master's arms. Hyacinth was truly a woman of God. She not only spoke the word but lived the word. All were touched by her wisdom and her willingness to provide guidance. Because of her unwavering faith and love for others she always moved with compassion and she strongly believed in not only being a hearer but a doer. Today we can quote her in her own words "There is always this "mystic" power of faith which should not be used as a crutch, but as a stairway that leads upwards towards the goodness of the Lord's love.? Her favorite scripture Hebrews 11 V.1 reads "Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, for by it the elders obtained a good report.? Hyacinth is survived by five children, three sons Bertram Hines and wife Suzanne and family, Carol Hines and wife Barbara and family, Harold Hines and wife Brenda and family and by two daughters Audrey Grant-Jarmon and Joan Taylor. Grandchildren: Kisha Lowe, Wendy Hines, Andre Hines, Harvey Hines, Christopher Terrence Hines, Paul Summers, Ronald Daire, Rohan Daire, Stephen Hines, Jacqueline Hines, Andrew Hines, Christopher Hines, Anne-Marie Hines, Richard Hines, Sean Hines, Chad Hines, Jamil Hines, sister Clarabelle Nunes, numerous great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Lockhart Hines and by many brothers and sisters. No words can ever express this great loss or how she will be truly missed by her family and friends. Miss Hopie is dearly loved and will never be forgotten.
