Harriet Marie Reed

Harriet "Marie" Reed (aka H. Marie Norris-Johnson-Reed) departed us from natural causes on October 16, 2018. Marie was born at home in Orlando, Florida on December 4, 1942. Her mother and father, also native Floridians, were Vera Ammons-Norris-Martin and John T. Norris. Later, her beloved step-father, Kenneth l. Martin, from Lubbock, TX, became a key figure in Marie's life. Growing up in Orlando, Marie attended the old Mark Street Elementary School, the original Memorial Junior High School on Rosalind and Edgewater High School. Marie married Donald E. Johnson, Sr., and is survived by their 3 children: Donna, Don Jr., and Ken. She is also survived by her grandson, Aric, "granddaughter" Shannon and her 3 great -grandchildren; Halle, Mason and Leila. They continue to be the greatest loves and joys of her life! With her first love being her family, Marie also loved exploring and going on adventures all throughout her beautiful home-state.. She loved taking the off beaten path in North Florida, discovering new information about her pioneer ancestors; traveling to St. Augustine to visit the lion bridge that her Poppa deemed as "hers" as a child; night fishing at the New Smyrna jelly inlet; heading over to the Atlantic coast on a beautiful spring day and putting her toes in the sand a the Canaveral National Seashore; driving throughout the Florida "mountains" or to visit the citrus groves that her Poppa once worked in; but mostly, she was always glad to end up a home-sweet-home in Orange County, Florida. Marie and her mother shared a passion in genealogy research and loved documenting their rich Southern-American family history and lore. As a former paralegal, Marie used her professional skills to substantially expand the original research she and her mother had done. As a 6th generation Floridian, Marie felt it was important to tell the stories of those who came before us, and to let no one go unremembered. Marie was certain that "Mama" would be proud. Marie will be buried in a private ceremony, in her beloved Florida on a beautiful fall day. Finally as she would hope, please remember Marie by "She did her best!"
