Evelyn Dixon Corby

Evelyn Ella (Dixon) Corby, 94, departed this life May 8, 2014 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus. She had been living with her daughter, Sandra Vogelpohl in Orlando, FL. With the loving help of Vitas Hospice home care Evelyn was surrounded by loving caregivers and family members. She was born on September 30, 1919 at German Hill near Tunkhannock. She is the daughter of the late Gordon Bert and Maybelle (Walter) Dixon. Evelyn enjoyed her family times especially reunions in PA. She liked reading, sewing, genealogy, traveling and country gospel music. Rooted in the Christian faith she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tunkhannock until moving to FL. She attended the Kissimmee First Church of the Nazarene for a number of years. When she was unable to attend church she watched Crystal Cathedral, Joyce Meyer or Charles Stanley at home. She was a member of the Orlando Chapter DAR and Mall Walkers of Kissimmee. Evelyn was raised at Brookside on the family farm and attended the nearby Brookside one room schoolhouse thru sixth grade. She graduated with the class of 1937 from Tunkhannock High School and married Walter Corby the following year. She was a professional seamstress working at Keystone State Shoe Company and Rowker Dress Factory both of Tunkhannock. Moving to Florida in 1971 she worked at Walt Disney World to continue her profession and retired in 1982. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Gordon Dixon; sister-in-law Janice Dixon Balliet; grandparents Josiah Cyrus and Ella (Cooper) Walter and Fredrick and Lula (Dickson) Dixon; nephew Lance Owen Dixon; son-in-law James Milligan. She is survived by two daughters Barbara Jean (Corby)Jenkins Milligan of St. Cloud, FL and Sandra Ann (Corby) husband Gregory Vogelpohl of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren Lisa Jean (Jenkins) and husband Richard Spain of Odessa, FL Lonnie Lee Jenkins and wife Teena of St. Cloud, FL; Matthew Gregory August Vogelpohl of Orlando, FL; Rebecca Anne Vogelpohl of Orlando, FL; five great grandchildren Crystal Marie (Jenkins) and husband Joe Dzilinski of Kissimmee, FL; Lonnie Lee Jenkins Jr. and Amanda of St. Cloud, FL; Richelle Jean (Spain) and husband Josh Solanes of Lutz, FL; twins Adam and Bradley Spain of Odessa, FL; three great great grandchildren Cash James Jenkins of St. Cloud, FL; Pryce Dreyer of St. Cloud, FL; Shelby Shroyer of Lindale, TX and two more great great grandchildren due August of this year; nephews Garth Gordon Dixon and wife Sukie of Pell Lake, WI; Keith Robert Dixon and wife Vicky of Mehoopany, PA; Dawn Diane Dixon of Santee, CA; Cathy Janice (Dixon) and husband Warren Rowe; Brenda Jeanne (Dixon) and husband Ron Belarmino of McHenry, IL; Dris E. (Dixon) and husband Gerald Taylor of Poseyville, IN; Peggy Jane Dixon; great nieces and nephews Dennas, Daryck and Darran Caldemeyer (Michelle); Lance Dixon (Missy) and Megan Dixon (Scott Weiber); Drew, Lisa (Randy St. Clair) and Karen Rowe, Sarah and Melanie Belarmino; Chase Laxner and two great nieces and nephew Alexis Caldemeyer, Hayley and Mason St. Clair. Grandma and Auntie Evelyn will be missed by all.
