Eric L. Thompson

Thank you all for coming to help us celebrate Eric’s life and share our grief at his passing. Eric better known as Binny by some of his relatives and friends, a kind warm caring loving man was born in Jamaica West Indies on the 31st, of January 1948. To Eustace and Norah. Growing up as a child was very hard for him, moving from one relative to the next. He joined the army in Jamaica at a young age primarily to have a safe and reliable place to sleep. Later on Eric migrated to the United States of America and got a job working at a factory which he never liked. He enjoyed reading and rarely did he see a book that he didn’t want to buy, every book he picked up was interesting to him. Eric enrolled himself into college because he wanted a better life for himself. He had lots of bumps along the way, and when he was close to the last year of his schooling he ran into financial issues that would prevent him from completing his degree. Two of his school friends Millicent Ambersley was one of those friends that rescued him by providing the money he needed to graduate. He has never forgotten that kindness and remained a close and trusted friend to them over the years. He graduated with an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies Degree Accounting Major with Honors. An Associate in Applied Science, A Bachelor of Science. Eric worked as a Controller with the City of New York Department of Finance for many years. He decided to leave that profession to become a business owner and successfully operated a bakery name The Bread Basket for many years. It was during that time that he met Barbara and captured her heart with his charm and tenacity. That meeting resulted in a marriage that lasted 18 years and 8months until the day of his passing. Eric decided to move on from being a business owner and went to the University of the State of New York Education Department to acquire a Registered Business School Full Teaching License which he used to instruct students at the Grace Institute of Business and Technology in New York. After leaving that job he went to the Metropolitan Learning Institute in New York. It was while teaching he became ill and was forced to stop working. He moves to Florida and begin what would be his five-year battle with cancer that ultimately claimed his life on March 28th, 2017. Left to morn is his mother Norah Davis. His loving and devoted wife Barbara Thompson. Son’s: Eric JR and Dennis, Daughter’s: Tene, Fanta, Rose Marie, Kadisha, and recently deceased daughter Aldene Dundas Two step son’s: Ravi and Lee Bowman Step daughter: Jorein Bowman Sister’s Ilene and Janice Brother’s Eustace Jr and Rodney Nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Two sisters Ilene and Jannis, One Brother Goddy many nieces and nephews relatives and friends too numerous to name that will cherish his memory. He will be remembered for his love and kindness by all who had the pleasure of being a part of his life. May his soul rest in perfect peace with our lord and savior Jesus Christ.
