Dolly Bustillo

Dolly Maria Bustillo, 80 years old,of Colombian descent, passed away in calm and peace, surrounded by her daughters, Vivian Saavedra and Diane Bustillo on 9/1/24 at 11:03pm. Dolly, born on 7/23/1944 in Antioquia Colombia-grew up caring for her younger siblings. Dolly graduated from the Gimnasio High School in Barranquilla Colombia. Dolly pursued her studies in Stenography at the Institute of Notre Dame in Colombia. Shortly thereafter she met and married her former now deceased husband Cesar Jose Bustillo. Dolly gave birth to her first child Vivian in Barranquilla Colombia in 1968. Wanting to pursue what they believed was “The American Dream” Cesar immigrated to the United States first, becoming a US resident and sponsoring Dolly and Vivian. They acquired an apartment in Bronx NY and gave birth to their second daughter Diane. The family relocated to Queens, New York purchasing their first home where Dolly raised her daughters. During Dolly’s years of living in Queens her home was known as the family “gathering spot” on Sundays and holidays. These fun filled family gatherings consisted of dancing, food, jokes, and games which included gambling. Dolly’s love for animals was obvious with the numerous pets she adored over the years, from Muffin, Smarty, Polly, Chachi and many others with her final and most beloved furry friend Minnie who was with her 22 yrs. Dolly ran a successful HVAC business for 5 yrs until she moved to Hollywood Florida in 1994 where she began her “semi retirement” working part time in retail. In 2009 Dolly relocated to Tamarac Florida where she bought her apartment solo, to start a new chapter in her life. The transition was difficult but being the strong courageous woman she was, she got through it with the support of her family. Dolly spent these years semi retired and living in her retirement community where she built friendships for life. Dolly loved poker, bingo, and was a master at scrabble and words with friends.. no one had a chance.. Dolly always won. Dolly’s inner detective came out when she watched her crime shows “First 48” “Murder She Wrote” and “Unsolved Mysteries” … she always knew who did it. Dolly was an avid reader and loved the author Agatha Christie, she also had a green thumb and loved plants. She found relaxation in caring for them and was also known for being an amazing seamstress. Dolly will be greatly missed by her surviving family… her oldest daughter Vivian Saavedra and her husband Luis F. Saavedra her youngest daughter Diane Bustillo and her wife Nicole Souto. Dollys surviving siblings are Luis Armando Urrego, Jorge William Urrego, Ramon Antonio Urrego, Maria Shirley Urrego, Maria Socorro Urrego and Alba Rocio Urrego. Dolly’s grandchildren are Tiffany A. Garnett and Daniel F. Saavedra and his wife Sarah Saavedra. Her great grandchildren are Aaron John Lehman and Olive Elizabeth Saavedra. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday September 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM at TY Park in Hollywood, FL at shelter Y24.
