Derek R. Winston

Derek R. Winston, 53, of Kissimmee, FL, passed away on January 6, 2017. Derek was born in Trinidad, West Indies on December 5, 1963 to Vincent and Grace Winston. He grew up in Boston, MA where, after graduating from Boston English High School, he earned an Electronic Engineering degree from Wentworth University. Derek worked as a technician for Honeywell and then Xerox, working his way up to a position as Global Network Engineer for Nortel Networks. He was known for his hard work, dedication, professionalism and strong work ethic. In his free time Derek was a car enthusiast and also a movie buff. He was an animal lover all his life, and over the years he had: birds, fish, dogs, cats, a squirrel and a rabbit; currently he loved his 2 Min Pin dogs and his cat. He loved to travel and had gone to Hong Kong and China, with plans to go to many other destinations. He grew up in the Boston Area and lived there until he moved to Florida with his Wife Genevieve in 2010. Those who knew Derek best would agree that he was a child at heart. Although he wanted to have children of his own, he then excelled as a wonderful dad-figure to his nephew and to his foster children, as he leaves them with wonderful memories of times filled with fun and laughter. Derek is survived by his loving Wife Genevieve (Lloyd) Winston, his Mother Grace (Vidale) Winston, a Sister Deborah Winston, Nephew Noah Winston; and 2 half siblings Juncia and Ronald Winston; Uncles David Vidale and Vernon Doctrove; as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was predeceased by his Father, Vincent Winston, in 2011. SERVICES: Memorial funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017, 2:00 pm at the Osceola Memory Gardens Poinciana Chapel, Kissimmee, FL; Cremation will take place at a later date.
