Denise Bays

Denise Judith Bays, endearingly known as Mama D, Turtle and Mamaw Denise passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the age of 75, in Orlando, Florida. Her journey ended after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Born on December 7, 1949, in Sydney Australia, Denise's vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Her infectious smile and laughter were her trademarks, spreading joy to anyone in her presence. The daughter of the late Edna and Raymond Johnston and sister to Raymond, Rhonda and Sharon. Denise cherished her family, including her beloved husband of many years, Michael R Bays. Together they built a legacy defined by love, laughter, and family closeness. Denise proudly raised two sons, Michael S. Bays and David A. Bays, instilling in them her unyielding strength, boundless generosity, and zest for life. She became the loving mother in law to Stephanie (Oliver) Bays and Nicole (Cobb) Bays and her heart expanded as she became a loving grandmother, or "Mamaw," to five cherished grandchildren, Jordan, Nicole, Hailee, Ryan and Avery who she showered with affection and joyful memories. Denise was much more than a mother and grandmother; she was a force of nature. Known for her contagious smile and laughter, she never met a stranger and cherished being the life of the party. Generosity radiated from her every action, and she embraced life's moments, adding a touch of fiery sass to every story. A savvy entrepreneur and proud business owner, Denise founded "Curtains Up" in Naples, creating homes with stylish interiors that reflected her passions in art collecting and interior design. Her adventurous personality led her around the globe, always eager to experience new cultures, shopping exploits, and taste a perfectly made "cockertail." A black belt in karate, Denise's discipline and strength were evident not just in her martial arts prowess but in every facet of her life. Despite her health challenges, she maintained a positive outlook. Denise leaves behind a legacy of resilience, strength, and an unwavering love for her family and friends. Despite her health challenges, she remained a devoted mother and friend, never wavering in her warmth and kindness. “I love you to the moon and back” were the words she lived by and the mantra that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know and love her. Denise's joyous spirit will be profoundly missed but forever cherished.
