Coach Mike Fields

William Michael Fields known to many as "Coach" was born on August 20, 1951 in Terre Haute, Indiana and went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Leigh Ann Fields, daughters Steffanie Ansbaugh (Chad), Mika Arthur, sons Trent Fields and Chase Fields; grandchildren Bailey Ansbaugh, Braxton Ansbaugh, Brody Ansbaugh, Gavin Booth, Gracey Arthur, his parents William "Bill" Fields and Evelyn Fields, Brother Keith Fields (Cathy), sister-in-law Alison Bass (Robert), brother-in-law Drew Lemmond, nieces Brooke Lemmond and Evan Bass, nephews Nathan Fields, Tanner Fields and Jason Kraus. Mike graduated from West Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. He received his Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University and his Master's degree from Ball State University. He served our country for 8 years as an Air National Guardsman. Mike was a teacher and baseball coach at Eastern Hancock High School and Pendleton Heights High School in Indiana, as well as St. Cloud High School and Harmony High School in Osceola County, Florida. Mike's spiritual relationship with the Lord was very deep and personal. He was a member and Elder of St. Cloud Presbyterian Church. Mike was also one of the winningest baseball coaches in the state of Florida with over 600 wins and was awarded the Ring of Honor by the Florida High School Athletic Association in 2014. His coaching career spanned 43 years where he was a mentor, friend and role model for thousands of young men and women. Mike was a class act and led by example on how to be winners not only on the field but in life as well. The extent of his impact on the community cannot be put into words. Mike started a reading incentive program for elementary students, organized food drives for the community food pantry, and shared his love of Christmas by having his baseball team go Christmas caroling for residents at local nursing homes. Mike was a devoted husband to his wife Leigh of 25 years and committed father to his four children. Family vacations were always an adventure for the Fields family, visiting nearly every state. Mike was always the first to reach out to his former students and players to support, congratulate, or console them. The world will not be the same without Mike Fields. He will missed by many, but the life lessons he instilled will live on forever as they continue to be passed down for generations. Memorial services will be held at Cornerstone Church located at 2925 Canoe Creek Road, St. Cloud, FL 34772 on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM.
