Charles "Charlie Ira Pullen, Sr.

Charles ?Charlie? Ira Pullen, Sr., 82, of Orlando, was born in Orlando, August 26, 1926 and passed into Glory, Friday, July 17, 2009 from cancer and COPD.ÿ He was an active member of Bible Baptist Church in Kissimmee and served there as a deacon and elder.ÿ He attended Flat Shoals Baptist Church in Salem, SC as a summer resident.ÿ During the years he served his Florida church where he was responsible for creating some memorable pieces for the church?s holiday productions such as the sleigh for a Christmas program, an electrically raised platform for the portrayal of Jesus Christ ascending into heaven and a huge electric mechanism to raise a stage-sized US flag for a July 4th program.ÿ He attended Osceola High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS YMS 89 (Yardage Mine Sweeper).ÿ He was employed in Civil Service at Patrick and McCoy Air Force Bases as a highly accomplished woodworker, retiring from McCoy in 1974.ÿ He also retired as a school bus driver with the Osceola County School District. During the 1950?s and 60?s, he drove stock cars #7 and #C-7 with his two brothers, Harry and Henry in the Central Florida District retiring in 1966.ÿ The Pullen Brothers were known and loved by their many fans that flooded the race tracks Friday and Saturday nights during those years. ?Charlie? married his high school sweetheart, his little brown-eyed doll, Beverly Jean Smith.ÿ They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary the day before his ?home-going?.ÿ They raised five children: Nancy Jean Cox of Orlando, Patricia Ann Rinks (husband, Neal)of Henderson, TN, Doris Charlene Goss of Orlando, Charles Ira Pullen, Jr. (wife, June) of Kissimmee and Mary Ellen Derryberry (husband, Tom), of Brooksville.ÿ He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Kenneth (wife, Lee Ann) of Umatilla, Christopher (wife, Brenda) Cox of Astatula, Trace Wortman (husband, Zac) of Sparta, KY, Marcy Bailey (husband, John) of Orlando, Amanda Goss of Chiefland, Tammy Yoder (husband, Jeff) of Clermont, Joseph and David Pullen of Kissimmee, ÿÿShane (wife, Lisa) and Ryan (wife, Kelli) Derryberry of Brooksville and ten great-grandchildren.ÿ He is also survived by another five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren by marriage.ÿ In addition, he is also survived by his brother, Henry Pullen of Jacksonville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are entrusted to Osceola Memory Gardens, Kissimmee.ÿ Visitation will be held Monday, July 20th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and Tuesday, July 21 from ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ 11 am to 1pm at Bible Baptist Church, Hwy. 192, Kissimmee followed by the funeral service at 1 pm at Bible Baptist Church. ÿOfficiating will be former and current Pastors, Joe Williams, Jimmy McNeil, Rick Flowers and Roland Davis as well as son-in-law Rev. Tom Derryberry. Following the funeral service, ?Charlie? will be interred in Rose Hill Cemetery on Old Boggy Creek Road, Kissimmee with full Military Honors courtesy of Osceola County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any hospice or nursing home of your choice.
