Catherine E. Wint

Eulogy Catherine Wint was born on September 14, 1936 in May Pen, Jamaica. She was the daughter of the late Egbert and Daisy Wint and the fourth of seven children born to this loving couple. Catherine graduated at the highest class level in the May Pen Government School and began her working career as a clerk at the merchandising business of Storks deRoux and Sons. Sometime later, she was sponsored for residence in the United States by her brother, Dr. Joseph Wint. There she began working in the home care industry. Where ever she worked, she set a high standard of efficiency, productivity, and dedication to her employers. Blossom, as many of us affectionately called her, did not do much driving but no rain, wind, sleet or snow ever stopped her from reporting for work. While working multiple jobs, like many West Indians do when they come to America, she found her calling in hospital administration. She worked at Bird S. Coler Hospital on Roosevelt Island, New York but found taking trains, subways, and a ferry to work very tiring. Her sister, Mavis Brown, suggested she apply for a position with the Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut. Catherine was hired by the organization and began a career in the admitting office. She retired from the Greenwich Hospital in 1998 after over 25 years of faithful service. Like many retirees wanting to move away from the cold weather, she relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1998 where her daughter and son resided. Sunday, December 15, 1996 marked a new chapter in Catherine’s life. She was baptized at Grace Baptist Church in Fairfield, Connecticut and began a closer walk with the Lord. When she moved to Orlando, she became a member of Crossroads Community Church (now Catalyst Community Church) on June 25, 2000 where she remained a member until her promotion into Heaven. Catherine loved the Lord and sang his praises each day. Whether she was volunteering at church, speaking to someone on the phone or someone she has just met, she never missed an opportunity to mention the Lord. In her later years, she spent many hours reading the Bible. She was devoted to prayer and constantly interceded at the throne of grace for her children, family, and friends. Our family will long remember our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend for her humor, kindness, loving spirit, and zest for life. We will remember her love of calling family and friends to stay in touch, cooking, gardening, reading, listening to gospel music, singing and teaching her grandson, Jordan about the Lord. But most of all, we will remember her love for the Lord and the joy it gave her to serve and worship her Savior. On Friday, April 15, 2016, Catherine peacefully left this life and was promoted into the presence of the Lord to receive her eternal reward for her faith. Left to cherish her memory are her 2 children: Yvonne Turnbull Hutchins and Andrew Man-You; grandson: Jordan Hutchins; 3 sisters: Myrtle Heslop, Dahpne Orr and Mavis Brown; 3 brothers: Joseph Wint, Harold Wint, and Hubert Wint; 2 brothers-in-law: Ken Heslop and Ephraim Orr; 3 sisters-in-law: Joye Wint, Jascinth Wint and Yvonne Wint; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 1:00 PM, at Catalyst Community Church, 14500 Landstar Blvd., Orlando, Fl. 32824, with services to begin at 2:00 PM. Interment to be at Osceola Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1717 Old Boggy Creek Road, Kissimmee, Fl. 34744, immediately following services.
