Bernice Dollard Tulloch

Bernice (Burnise) Dollard Tulloch, 96, quietly passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Bernice, affectionately called “Sug”, was the third child (out of eight) born to the late Joe and Carrie Session-Dollard. She started her education at the Chavis Elementary School in Hemingway, South Carolina. After completing elementary school, she left the family’s farm to attend high school in Florence, South Carolina. While in Florence, she was introduced to the Seventh Day Adventist Denomination by an elderly aunt and was baptized through an evangelistic crusade held by Elder W.W. Fordham. Upon receiving her high school diploma, she entered in and received from the Chicago School of Nursing, a nursing certificate. She began working for Dr. Lyles of Florence, South Carolina. Bernice relocated to Harlem, New York during the late 1940s where she enjoyed the rich artistic/historical influences of the city. She worked and eventually retired from Bellevue Hospital in New York City after 30 years of service. Ever the achiever, she continued to pursue outside interests such as, earning a cosmetology license from the Poro School of Beauty Culture in New York City. She was involved with various community, civic, and religious activities around the city. Bernice was a delegate, from Harlem, for the1963 March on Washington. She served on the Usher and Treasury Boards for the “Great” Ephesus SDA Church in Harlem, N.Y. for more than 20 years. These are a few of her numerous accomplishment throughout her life. But if she were alive today, she would say that accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior was her ultimate accomplishment. Bernice met the love of her life, the late Cleveland Tulloch of Spanish Town, Jamaica, while living in Harlem, N.Y. They married in March, 1967 and moved from Harlem to Brooklyn, New York. After they retired, they moved to Kissimmee Florida in the early 1990s where she remained until her call to glory. She is preceded in death by the following: Her parents, Joe and Carrie Dollard; her husband, Cleveland Tulloch; and her siblings – Josephine, Minnie, Timmons Jefferson, Wilson, Daniel, and Abram. She is survived by the following: Her sister, Anzie Louvania Dollard Laurel and Brother-in-law Ocie Evans Laurel; Nieces, Yonzetta Ann Laurel Moss, Deborah Lynn Laurel; Nephews, Ocie Evans Laurel, Jr. and Richard Sylvester Laurel, Richard Dollard; Great-Nieces, Donnetta Moss-Gardner, Denielle Yvonne Moss, K.Yvette Moss-Herbert, Kendra Laurel, Kenniesha Laurel, Jhordan Matisse Gardner, Jailin S. Herbert, Jada S Herbert; Great-Nephews, Julius M. Gardner, Jalil B. Herbert; Niece-in-law, Lynn Laurel; Nephews-in-law, Tonney A. Gardner, Brian Herbert. She will by missed by an army of relatives, friends, and associates
