Benjamin Jimenez Miranda

Benjamin Jimenez Miranda was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico on April 30, 1934. He is the son of Cristino Jimenez Otero and Antonia Miranda Ramos. Benjamin is the youngest in a family of 9 siblings and was the first in his family to graduate from college. Benjamin graduated Central High School in Santurce and served in the U.S. Army for 42 years in active and reserve duty before retiring as a colonel in 1994. He was awarded the U.S. Army Joint Service Commendation Medal (1973, 1986), Department of Defense Legion of Merit (1989) and the Selective Service Exceptional Service Award (1988). Benjamin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (magna cum laude) and a Juris Doctor at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan while working full time with the National Guard. He also received National Guard Outstanding Guardsman recognition in 1959. Benjamin was a member of the Bar Associations of Puerto Rico and Florida. He practiced civil and family law privately in Florida for 30 years and for 42 years in Puerto Rico. During that time, he served as president of the Puerto Rico National Bar Association in 1994 and 1997. In 1957, he met his future wife Loyda Muñoz Baez in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Benjamin’s friends confirm that on the first day they met he had correctly predicted that she would soon be his wife. They later married at First United Methodist Church in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on March 2, 1958 and lived in Reparto Metropolitano. Benjamin and Loyda welcomed their son Benjamin Jr. to the world in 1959 followed by their sons David in 1961 and Daniel in 1968. Benjamin and Loyda moved to the United States in 1980. Following the family’s move to Miami, Benjamin took an executive director position for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Southeast Fisheries Center, where he earned the NOAA Administrator’s Award in 1983. He was also selected for a Supervisory Award by the Puerto Rico Federal Executive Board (1975) and the Miami Federal Executive Board (1983). In 1990, the family moved to Kissimmee, Florida, where Benjamin opened his law office. Loyda was a full-time home maker and also served many years as a secretary at the law office. Benjamin instilled the values of Biblical faith, family, hard work and education in his children and grandchildren. In addition to serving as a deacon at eight churches, Sunday school director and teacher, he also founded Spanish ministries at two English-speaking churches. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing dominos, traveling, bowling, along with competing in track and field. After turning 60, he became a standout masters track and field athlete, winning 346 medals and competing in eight countries. He is survived by his wife Loyda Jimenez, and their sons Benjamin, David and Daniel, sister Luz Jimenez, grandchildren Hiram Jimenez, Rose Ayala, Solimar Jimenez, Zachary Jimenez, Nicole Jimenez and Lucas Jimenez, and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in the afterlife by his brothers and sisters, and in-laws. Él es el hijo de Cristino Jimenez Otero y Antonia Miranda Ramos. Benjamín tiene cuatro hermanos y cuatro hermanas mayores y fue el primero de su familia en graduarse de colegio. Benjamín se graduó de Central High School en Santurce. Sirvió en el ejército de los Estados Unidos por 42 años activo y en las reservas antes de retirarse como coronel en 1994. Benjamín recibió varios honores en su carrera incluyendo el “U.S. Army Joint Service Commendation Medal” (1973, 1986), “Department of Defense Legion of Merit” (1989) y el “Selective Service Exceptional Service Award” (1988). Benjamín obtuvo un bachillerato en administración de negocios (magna cum laude) y un Juris Doctor de la Universidad de Puerto Rico trabajando en Puerto Rico a tiempo completo con la Guardia Nacional. Fue reconocido como el National Guard Outstanding Guardsman en 1959. Su práctica legal privada se especializó en derecho civiles en Florida por 30 años y por 42 años en Puerto Rico. Durante ese tiempo, sirvió como presidente de la Asociación Nacional de Abogados de Puerto Rico en 1994 y 1997. En 1957, el conoció a su futura esposa Loyda Muñoz Báez en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sus amigos confirman que en el primero día que se conocieron el predicho correctamente que ellos se casarían algun día. Se casaron en la Primera Iglesia Metodista de Río Piedras, Puerto Rico el 2 de marzo de 1958 y vivieron en el Reparto Metropolitano. Benjamín y Loyda le dieron la bienvenida a su hijo Benjamín Jr. al mundo en 1959 y fue seguidos por sus hijos David en 1961 y Daniel en 1968. En 1980, Benjamín y Loyda se mudaron a Miami, Florida, donde aceptó la posición de director ejecutivo para National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Southeast Marine Fisheries Center, donde se ganó el honor de NOAA Administrator’s Award en 1983. También fue seleccionado para el Supervisory Award por el Puerto Rico Federal Executive Board (1975) y el Miami Federal Executive Board (1983). En 1990, Benjamín y Loyda fueron a vivir en Kissimmee, Florida, donde Benjamín abrió su oficina de leyes. Loyda fue ama de casa y trabajó muchos años como secretaria legal en la oficina de Benjamín. Benjamín infundió la importancia de la fe bíblica, familia, educación y el trabajo fuerte en sus hijos y nietos. Además de servir como diácono en ocho iglesias, fue maestro y director de escuela bíblica. También fundó dos ministerios Hispanos en iglesias Americanas. En su tiempo libre, el disfrutaba jugando dominos, viajando, boleando, y participando en pista y campo. Después de cumplir 60, se destacó como atleta de nivel master en pista y campo, ganando 346 medallas y compitiendo en ocho países. Fue sobrevivido por su esposa Loyda Jiménez, y sus hijos Benjamín, David and Daniel, hermana Luz Jiménez, nietos y nietas Hiram Jiménez, Rose Ayala, Solimar Jiménez, Zachary Jiménez, Nicole Jiménez y Lucas Jiménez, y sus muchos sobrinos y sobrinas, primos y primas, y amistades. Fue precedido en la otra vida por sus hermanos y hermanas, suegros y suegras, cuñadas y cuñados.
