Augustus Omolara

Augustus Enitan Ishola Omolara was born in Dekalu, Abeokuta, Nigeria on August 26, 1944, to the late Madam Comfort Makinde and the late Pa Samuel Adebayo Omolara of Ikire. He was the youngest of three siblings. Augustus was fondly known as Mr. Gus, Grandpa Gus, Big Daddy in Florida, and Uncle. Augustus completed his primary and secondary education at Ahmadiyya College in Agege, Lagos, Nigeria. He began his career at the Nigerian Railways Corporation, alongside his brother, Oyewola Omolara, in Zaria (North Central Nigeria) and later relocated to Ibadan in Western Nigeria. While at the Railways Corporation, Augustus was in charge of the original IBM computer system. He migrated to the United States in 1977 after the Railways Corporation gave him an opportunity to study and receive a certificate in Computer Science Technology. He later transferred to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and specialized in Computer Hardware. During his time at the Pratt Institute, he began working in the Education Section at the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York City from where he retired in 1991 after 22 years of service. Thereafter, he founded his own computer company, Toby Computer Services, and later a Non-Profit Organization Information Resources Center that serves the community. He moved his family to Florida in 2001. Augustus married the love of his life, Helen Iyabo Ogunyele, on July 5, 1985, after four years of dating. They are blessed with two children Atinuke and Gbemisola. Augustus was fortunate to witness Tinu's marriage to Yomi Oluwatimilehin in September 2018 and Gbemisola's marriage to Collins Uagbor in May & October 2022. Tinu and Yomi have blessed the Omolaras with two grandchildren, Jedidiah (Jedy) and Hope (Dara) Oluwatimilehin. Augustus was a Devout Christian who believed in our Lord Jesus Christ, an avid volunteer for the Second Harvest Food Program, and whatever came his way. A devoted family man, selfless, and a giver who loved his family. Augustus also embraced his in-laws and extended family wholeheartedly as his own. One of his happiest moments was when he served people, even during his difficult times he evangelized in his own way. While out in the community, he spoke to people about God and heaven without hesitation. Although he had two biological children, Grandpa Gus was blessed with many children and grandchildren here and abroad who loved him dearly. Augustus and Iyabo Omolara were the roots in this country that sprouted so many branches. He had many friends and colleagues who were also dear to him and considered him family. Through his close association with people, Mr. Gus left footprints for all of us to follow. He was an avid art connoisseur and photographer who took and made enlarged portraits of family members. He is survived by his wife, Helen, children Tinu & Yomi Oluwatimilehin, and Gbemi & Collins Uagbor, grandchildren, Jedy and Hope Oluwatimlehin, In-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins too numerous to count.
