Ashley Tanner

Ashley Earlo Tanner, 97, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his home on the shores of Alligator Lake. Known as Earlo by family and friends, he was born in Kissimmee, Florida on March 17, 1927, to Ashley and Ruby Tanner. Except for his U.S. Army service in Germany during World War II, Earlo lived his entire life in Kissimmee and Osceola County. Earlo was an all-sport all-star athlete at Osceola High School, playing Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Track & Field. Upon graduation from High School, Earlo was immediately taken for military service but after his return from the military, he continued with his pursuit of sports and was offered football scholarships with the University of Miami, University of Alabama, UCLA, and the University of Tampa. Earlo chose the University of Tampa for many reasons but mostly because he could play football and stay close to home. Later in his sports career, Earlo played football with Kissimmee’s legendary Semi-pro Football Team, the Golden Brahman, and multiple Semi-pro baseball teams throughout Central Florida. Earlo first worked for the State Road Department for several years but found his true calling at the Kissimmee Post Office where he served for more than 30 years, retiring as a supervisor. Earlo was an avid golfer and loved to fish, especially fly fishing. But as much as he loved sports and his work, nothing could compare to the love for his family and friends. His beloved wife of 67 years, Maxine, and his son Robert were the focus of his entire life. His love for them was pure and complete. If you were a friend of Earlo, you were blessed. Kissimmee and Osceola County have lost a large part of its history with his passing. His stories of his community and its people informed and entertained those who had the privilege of listening to them. Earlo was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Maxine and son Robert, who was the apple of his eye. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, especially his niece, Patty, who was his “angel” for the last seven years of his life. Earlo also leaves a multitude of life-long friends. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their care and comfort during Earlo’s last days.
