Mr. Arthur J. Miller

Arthur James Miller, 86, passed away on October 12th, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Kissimmee, Florida. He was born on November 30th, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to John Jacob Miller and Mary Agnes Knight Miller. Arthur grew up in Remus, Michigan. He graduated from Remus Consolidated High School in Remus, Michigan in 1944. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1945 during WWII and worked as an aircraft engine mechanic and remained in the Army Air Force reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1948. Arthur began working for Elliott Company in 1950 in the Turbine Engineering Division. He served as Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, was on the Turbine Blade Task Force, was Senior Engineer for power recovery turbines, and ultimately became the Manager of Turbine Development. Arthur was awarded 13 different design patents during his career. At Elliott Company, he was known for his work on the design and test of a 25-inch turbine blade, and for the design of a 22,500 hp power recovery turbine for the oil industry. In his last few years of his career, he proudly worked on the design of the TH140, one of their largest steam turbines. He retired in 1987 after 37 years and moved from North Huntingdon, PA to Kissimmee, FL. Arthur married his sweetheart, Maryanne Agnes Kissel, in 1956 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, and they remained happily married for 57 years. Arthur enjoyed golf and bowling, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and University of Michigan Wolverines fan. He loved classical music, especially Beethoven. Arthur was preceded in death by his father John Jacob Miller and his mother, Mary Agnes Knight Miller. Arthur is survived by his spouse Maryanne of Kissimmee, FL; his children, Kathryn M. Perez, (husband Jose) of Orlando, FL, Arthur J. Miller, Jr., (wife Diana) of Findlay, OH, Karen M. Davis, (husband Brett) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Martha Hilty Becker, (husband Bruce) of Glenmoore, PA; grandchildren Phillip and Nicole, Suzanne and Douglas, Christian and Samantha, and Cameron, as well as his great-grandchild Nathaniel. He is also survived by his siblings Veronica Miller, John J. Miller, Jr., Lillian Simms, Mary Razgunas, Bernadine Layher, and Ann Miller Chisholm. Arthur was a long time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon, PA. After moving to Florida, he was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in St. Cloud, FL. A visitation will be held at Osceola Memory Gardens, 2000 13th Street, St. Cloud, FL 34769 on Thursday, October 17th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 700 Brown Chapel Road, St. Cloud, FL 34769 at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18th. The family will be greeting friends and relatives immediately following mass at the St. Thomas Aquinas Social Hall.
