Aida Sanchez

Aida Sanchez – loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many – passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Savannah Court of St. Cloud, Florida, at the age of 90. She was born Aida Maria Lucena Gonzalez on June 17, 1930, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to Dolores Gonzalez and Agustin Lucena. On August 5, 1948, in Dominguito, Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she married Leopoldo Sanchez, Jr., and soon thereafter welcomed two beautiful daughters. The family would eventually relocate to Brooklyn, New York, where following her retirement she committed to raising her family full time. She was often the life of the party – her smile and laughter infectious, her cooking exceptional, her coffee strong, and her affection for nearly anyone who was blessed to know her undeniable. She was an avid sewer and craftswoman who created one-of-a-kind arts and crafts – and never charged anyone a penny for her work. Most importantly, she was a woman of deep and immovable faith whose love of Jesus was rivaled only by her love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The youngest of her siblings, she is predeceased by her sisters Ana Rosa Lucena, Belen Maria Torres, Ermelinda Carrion, and Emma Gloria Beltran, and brothers Angel Manuel Lucena, Francisco “Panchito” Lucena, Luis Gilberto Lucena, and Rafael Lucena. She is survived by her husband Leopoldo Sanchez, Jr.; her daughters Maria Maldonado and husband Gilbert, and Angie Maldonado and husband Pedro; her grandchildren Adam Maldonado, Marisol Thomas and husband Robert, and Jeffrey Maldonado and wife Melissa; and her great-grandchild Gavin Maldonado. The family will receive a small number of loved ones at a Remembrance Service to be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 3-7 p.m. at Osceola Memorial Gardens, 1717 Old Boggy Creek Road, Kissimmee, Florida 34744. The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the staff and nurses at Savannah Court of St. Cloud, Florida, whose love, care and attention gave her so much joy and comfort in her final days.
