It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a brave and courageous man who fought a difficult battle against cancer. Patrick Dean Curtis passed away peacefully by his wife’s side on February 14, 2023. Pat was born to Wilder Mark and Genevieve Ida Curtis May 13, 1951 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and was raised in Homestead, Florida where his love for the outdoors began. Pat was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served on the USS Forestall. He retired from Orange County as a transfer station supervisor and was looking forward to traveling the country with his wife. Pat’s diagnosis with stage four Glioblastoma came as a shock to everyone, but his strength in battling the cancer did not. Pat went through two brain surgeries and chemotherapy. He was out of that hospital bed so fast that it shocked his doctors, but to his family, it was a testament to the strength we knew. Pat faced his diagnosis with unwavering determination and was an inspiration to those who knew him. Pat was a man who really knew how to appreciate the simple things in life. He had a natural gift for making connections with people, as he never met a stranger. He had a talent for making people feel at ease in his presence and accepted people as they were. He loved his family, his friends, fishing, diving, motorcycle rides, horses, nature watching, boating, cherry Blizzards, John Wayne movies, sharing stories and finding new adventures. Pat loved finding new places to dine, thrift shopping and walking hand-in-hand with his wife on the beach. Pat was a man who lived his life to the fullest, enjoying the moments life presented him. Pat had an unshakable loyalty that his family and friends could depend on. He was the kind of person who would drop everything for his loved ones, no questions asked. He had an infectious sense of humor and could find joy in the moment. Pat was also the kind of man who loved deeply, and that love touched the lives of those around him. His smile, laughter and strength will be greatly missed. Those who were fortunate enough to know him were truly blessed. Pat understood the importance of cherishing life's simple pleasures, and his legacy serves as a valuable reminder for all of us to appreciate the little things. By keeping this lesson close to our hearts, we can honor his memory and the joy he brought to our lives. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Wilder and Genevieve Curtis as well as his siblings Don (Chris) and June Curtis. He is survived by his spouse Sylvia Curtis of Saint Cloud, FL; children DeAnnah Boettcher of Germantown Hills, IL, Robert (Erica) Curtis of Canton, MS, Caren (Randy) Johnson of Saint Cloud, FL, Jason Curtis of Poinciana, FL, Zakary Curtis of Saint Cloud, FL, Matthew (Angela) Nelson of Dawsonville, GA, John (Jenny) Morris of Roanoke, VA and Terena (John) Caiazzo of Castalian Springs, TN; siblings Barbara Cruse of MS, Clyde (Beverly) Curtis of WS, Mike (Patsy) Curtis of WS, Linda Jackson of SC and Bill (Pattie) Curtis of FL; as well as eighteen grandchildren who he was infinitely proud of.
